We are pleased that with this sound art project we, the GKP (Styrian Society for Cultural Politics) can contribute towards opening borders and uniting our neighboring countries in virtual space!
News from Radio Yerevan orver comes borders through the simultaneity of music in four different countries in Europe. All four countries are in the immediate vicinity of Austria - are in the Alpen-Adria-Region, hardly accessible at the moment. The idea of this sound art concert is to invoke notions of memory, a discourse, a call to the most basic elements of humanity and society.
In a live radio quartet connecting four points of isolation in the midst of the corona crisis, four musicians from Austria, Hungary, Italy and Croatia meet via internet streaming in the ether and enter into an acoustic exchange involving music and sound, questioning and manipulating the meaning and significance of sonic material.
Radio Yerevan was an ongoing public joke behind the iron curtain. Humour, cynicism and absurdity reflected truth, lies and hypocrisy in a never-ending flow of questions and answers that seems today like a forerunner of the fake news that inundates us constantly.Over the years,a series of questions and answers (Radio Yerevan was asked ...... Radio Yerevan answered .......) communicated humor, cynicism, absurdity as a reflection of the truth, as well as the lies and hypocrisy of a communication culture that can now be seen as a forerunner of today's fake news.
